Let’s Image Our Future Together – Bring a CT Scanner to Your Hospital
Our goal is to raise $3.6 million through community-based fundraising for the purchase of a CT Scanner and the associated renovations needed to implement this vital service at the Wingham & District Hospital.
Fundraising Progress
Our Goal: $3.6 Million
Where We’ve Been
In 2015, we made a commitment to modernize our hospital facility by completing a multimillion-dollar redevelopment that saw the expansion and enhancement of six hospital departments and the establishment of the Royal Oaks Health & Wellness Centre. This investment in local healthcare was our promise to continue to rise to the occasion of ever- advancing medical technology while keeping the health of loved ones and our community as the centre of our focus.
Where We’ve Been
The Wingham & District Hospital has been a cornerstone of the community for over 100 years. It has always been our top priority to provide high quality, close-to-home healthcare for the residents of Wingham, Lucknow, Teeswater, Belgrave, ACW, Howick, and the surrounding areas.
Where We’re Going
To realize the full potential of our diagnostic imaging program and emergency services department, the Hospital Foundation has launched the Caring Together capital campaign. Our goal is to raise $3.6 million through community-based fundraising for the purchase of a CT Scanner and the associated renovations needed to implement this vital service.
What is a CT Scanner?
Computer Tomography Scan uses a series of x-rays from different angles which are combined electronically to create an internal image of the body. CT Scan is very effective at surveying the whole body and is best for images of bone injuries, blood clots and spinal injuries. Scans can be performed quickly, which is beneficial for emergency situations.
Why We Need CT in Wingham
In addition to being costly, transporting patients to another site often requires a nurse escort who is pulled away from the hospital team. Having CT in our hospital will allow for better utilization of scarce nursing and financial resources. Reducing travel will also allow patients for whom transportation is too challenging to receive care they wouldn’t otherwise be able to access.
Beyond emergency usage, local CT will complement our regional oncology program. Patients receiving cancer treatment often need a CT every 3 to 6 months. Our physician team is dedicated to ensuring the new CT device has the scan capabilities to support a wide variety of clinical needs.
Caring Together
We have already seen extraordinary support for this project from local businesses and our physician team. These incredible gifts mean we are optimistic about the success of the CT project and the Caring Together campaign. Yet, we need your continued support and commitment to bring this vital equipment home to our hospital.

Wingham & District Hospital Foundation Expands Funding Goal for Caring Together Campaign
Aug 12, 2024
The Wingham & District Hospital Foundation’s Caring Together campaign set out in early 2024 with a goal of raising $2,500,000 to fund a CT Scanner and the associated renovations. The targeted dollar amount was based on preliminary estimates. As the project progressed, it became clear that actual costs would amount to more than anticipated. As such, the WDH Foundation has expanded the funding goal for the project to $3,600,000.
The hospital engaged in a robust RFP process and received multiple quotes from several different medical device vendors. All the quotes for the renovation work were significantly higher than the earlier estimates. Factors include inflation, increased costs due to the age of the building and extensive structure support required to accommodate the machinery. After careful consideration and strong negotiations, the project team was able to reduce costs with the selected vendor, yet the final cost is still above the original funding target. As such, an expanded goal of $3,600,000 has been set for the Caring Together campaign.
Listowel Wingham Hospital Alliance CFO Becky Bloemberg explained that “rising costs are a reality across the province and across industries. Hospitals are not exempt. We carefully considered where costs could be trimmed and where corners should not be cut. We are proud of our project team for coming to reasonable terms with the supplier and are incredibly grateful to the Foundation for their renewed efforts to meet the increased need for funding”.
Executive Director of the Foundation Nicole Duquette says the support from the community has been outstanding so far and she has every confidence the new target will be reached. “The generosity of many families and businesses have helped us reach and exceed the $2.5 million mark. Along the way I’ve heard many people speak of experiences of seeking CT care elsewhere and how important it is to make this service available in Wingham. I’m certain the community will rise to the occasion of this increased fundraising goal”.
Currently, the Caring Together campaign has achieved 87% of the new $3,600,000 goal. Anyone who values having the most up-to-date medical care available close to home is encouraged to make a gift and help close the final gap.

Hospital Receives Largest Gift in its History – Britespan Building Systems Inc. Makes Million Dollar Donation to Wingham & District Hospital CT Campaign
Britespan Building Systems Inc. has made history by donating $1,000,000 to support the Wingham & District Hospital Foundation’s Caring Together capital campaign. The goal of the campaign is to raise $2.5 million for a new CT Scanner. Thanks to the remarkable lead gift from Britespan, the campaign is well on its way to achieving 50% of that goal.
The million dollar donation from Britespan marks the largest single gift the Wingham & District Hospital Foundation has ever received. It comes at an ideal time as the need to enhance the diagnostic imaging department with an on-site CT Scanner has become a critical priority.
“This incredible gift from Britespan will transform the face of our hospital. Their generosity will be reflected in the experience of every patient who receives a CT scan close to home,” says WDH Foundation Executive Director Nicole Duquette.

Britespan Co-owner Ben Hogervorst spoke to the gift: “As a local family business, Rob Stute and I have always believed in the importance of supporting the local community. We have been putting money aside for several years now so that when the special need arose, we could step up and give in a big way. Wingham is where the majority of our staff come for their hospital care. We feel that responsibility to our community.”
The Caring Together fundraising campaign is a vital step to securing a CT Scanner for the Wingham & District Hospital. The gift from Britespan will go a long way to making it a success. Mark Foxton, Chair of the Caring Together campaign received the donation saying: “The Britespan team has been a longtime supporter of the hospital and this gift cements them as true philanthropic leaders in our community. It’s my hope that this will inspire others to join them in supporting this important project”.

Bruce Power Commits $100,000 to CT Scanner at Wingham & District Hospital
May 14, 2024
Bruce Power is committed to investing in healthcare in Bruce and Huron counties. This commitment is demonstrated by a $100,000 donation to the Wingham & District Hospital Foundation. The funds will help bring a new CT Scanner service to the hospital.
The Wingham & District Hospital Foundation’s Caring Together campaign is focused on raising at least $2.5 million for a CT Scanner and the required facility renovations. CT scans have become the new standard of medical practice for emergency care. A local CT scanner will also make the hospital more attractive to potential healthcare providers who are looking for access to the most up to date technology.
“Access to healthcare facilities and the best possible equipment and technology is important to Bruce Power,” said John Peevers, Bruce Power’s Director of Community and Media Relations, and Economic Development. “We are proud our funding can help bring improved care to the communities Bruce Power serves as well as to our employees and their families”.
Bruce Power has been a long-time supporter of the Wingham & District Hospital. Their generosity was influential in completing the major hospital redevelopment in 2016 and they have contributed to many important equipment upgrades through the CKNX Healthcare Heroes Radiothon. With this newest donation Bruce Power has contributed more than $285,000 to the hospital.
Executive Director Nicole Duquette-Jutzi accepted the donation saying, “The positive influence Bruce Power has on the vitality of communities in Huron and Bruce counties can’t be understated. We are so grateful they continue to recognize local hospitals as the cornerstone of good health for the whole region.”

Local Physician Donates to Wingham Hospital CT Scanner Campaign
Feb. 27, 2024
Dr. Sean Henderson, ER Physician Lead at the Wingham & District Hospital, is donating $30,600 to the Caring Together campaign to bring a brand-new CT Scanner to the hospital.
Dr. Henderson began practice at the Wingham & District Hospital and at his family practice in Lucknow in 2018. Since that time, he has taken on the role of ER Lead which makes him acutely aware of the need for a CT Scanner. “A CT takes lots of thinly sliced x-rays and puts them together with a computer so you can see the body in high definition,” explained Henderson. “Being able to do that means I can make a diagnosis faster and more accurately and that makes a huge difference in giving the right treatment”.
Seeing the urgency and importance of high-quality diagnostic equipment in the ER every day inspired Dr. Henderson to make a personal donation. His generous donation of $30,600 will help ensure that patients needing a CT scan soon will only have to travel down the hall and not to another hospital.
Henderson also emphasized the value of a CT Scanner in attracting potential new healthcare professionals to the Wingham & District Hospital: “We train with a CT Scanner and when looking at a place to practice and you see that it’s there it definitely adds to the desirability of that place”.
Everyone at the WDH Foundation, is grateful to Dr. Henderson for his personal generosity and for sharing his expertise and passion for healthcare with our community.

Campaign Chair Leads the Way in CT Scanner Campaign: Foxton Fuels $100,000 Donation to Hospital
Feb. 20, 2024
Foxton Fuels has donated $100,000 to the Wingham & District Hospital Foundation’s Caring Together capital campaign for a CT Scanner. Mark Foxton is currently serving as the Caring Together Campaign Chair and his wife, Lisa Hearnden, is a long-time director on the board of the Wingham & District Hospital Foundation.
Foxton recently had a personal experience that brought home the critical importance of having a CT Scanner on-site in Wingham. Prior to Christmas, Foxton found himself in the Wingham ER with kidney stones. He was referred to Listowel for a CT Scan. Fortunately for Foxton, he did not have transportation challenges nor was it a life-threatening condition. Nevertheless, the travel to and from Listowel extended an unpleasant situation delaying diagnosis and treatment options. The experience brought the need for an on-site CT Scanner in Wingham into stark clarity. “I can’t imagine the stress that travel would add to someone who is acutely injured, has mobility limitations or who needs regular scans, such as an oncology patient. Having a CT here in Wingham will make a huge difference to patients and will allow our doctors to deliver even better care than they already do,” Foxton said.
“Mark and Lisa are fantastic advocates for our hospital and this $100,000 donation as well as Mark’s leadership on the campaign team are invaluable,” said WDH Foundation Executive Director Nicole Duquette-Jutzi. “It is our hope that the community will join them in helping make this important upgrade for our hospital happen.”
